The plan is to paint iris in the garden. The prep video presents some ideas to get started in the first segment of the video.
Beginner: Plan to sketch or create simple 'humble' studies to focus on light or dark object. Flower color is exciting but it's going to only be striking if you think of value first.
Intermediate: Incorporate foreground, middle ground and background picture planes into your painting plan.
Advanced: Think of dominant color harmonies, or complimentary colors, how can you incorporate this into your painting. What size will be best? Keep color fresh (regardless of media used) by not over mixing or doing excess blending. Reserve some pure color (tube color!) for the most vivid part of your flower. This pure color should be 15% of your painting surface, or less for larger work.
