Live Demos

After class I finished this painting and played with some elements (lemon trees, shadow, etc).

Scrape and redo process can be beneficial to the art process. Here I clarify my goals for the artwork and try out a few new ideas for detail, color, value and design. Note, some of this recording is at 2x speed because I paint and repaint areas repeatedly. This is a chance to see my true process of destroy and restate to make a better painting. If you want to try some of this on your own artwork I'd suggest watching the video and then trying out some of the ideas presented (versus painting along). Watercolor artists could try another painting (or more), this would be easier than scrubbing out and repainting Or try using gouache to build opaque layers.

See what you like best about your painting and what you like least. Don't be afraid to destroy passages to get to something better and more unified. True art process is never a linear step by step but instead a series of choices, corrections, and motivated marks. Play with your painting and see what comes of this exploration. Making multiple paintings, or a series, is also a good method for artistic exploration.
